The Mercedes C-Class has long been a favorite among company car drivers, and the plug-in hybrid version, called the C 300 e, is our top pick for a plug-in hybrid company car. According to Mercedes, it can travel an impressive 70 miles on electricity, while CO2 emissions of just 13g/km mean a BiK level of 8%. When the plug-in C-Class’s battery runs down, the 201bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine under the bonnet is refined and quiet for longer journeys. The interior also takes styling cues from the flagship S-Class and EQS sedans, and it’s generally a very pleasant place to be. Boot space is limited compared to the standard C-Class, but there’s a C 300 e-Wagon if practicality is important to you.
The BMW 3 Series has been one of the best performing cars since its inception in the late 1970s. So it’s no surprise that the latest plug-in hybrid version is one of the most entertaining and cost-effective company cars you can drive. The previous-generation 330e offered only modest electric range, but the latest can go up to 37 miles without waking up the gas engine. The boot is slightly smaller than the petrol or diesel derivatives, but the cost savings will make up for this small compromise for many company car drivers. There’s also a wagon version of the 330e Touring (pictured above), and a recent update brought styling updates and a new dual-screen infotainment system.
Best Used Hybrid Cars
In terms of company car tax, the BMW 530e plug-in hybrid is at the more expensive end of the scale. There’s no getting around the high list price, but you get a very capable flagship for your money: 0-62mph takes just 6.2 seconds, and you’ll enjoy the limousine-like luxury offered by all 5 Series models .Models are offered. The 2019 update saw the 530e gain additional electric range, as well as xDrive all-wheel drive. The standard model will now get 41 miles on electricity thanks to its slightly larger battery.

An all-electric range of 43 miles, a generous 540-litre boot space and attractive looks help the Kia Sportage PHEV stand out in the crowded plug-in hybrid market. Not only is the Sportage’s cabin spacious and well-built, it also features the flagship Kia EV6’s intuitive dual-screen infotainment system. According to Kia, the first Sportage plug-in hybrid can also return up to 252mpg and is a decent highway cruiser when the gas engine kicks in. Kia’s famous seven-year/100,000-mile warranty and long list of safety packages are just the icing on the cake.
Lexus’ reluctance to embrace plug-in hybrid technology and stick to its tried-and-true plug-in hybrids has begun to hold back the Japanese brand in its sales battle with BMW and Mercedes. Now, however, it’s taken a leap with the latest generation of its popular mid-size SUV, the NX, which boasts an impressive 40-mile electric range, angular Lexus styling and solid build quality inside and on the outside Lexus also fixed its previously terrible infotainment system. If you want to sit back and relax instead of attacking the corners like a BMW driver, this could be just the ticket.
Best Hybrid Cars Under $30,000
The Mercedes A-Class is regularly among the best-selling cars in the UK, and the introduction of a plug-in hybrid model has cemented the hatchback’s place at the top of the list. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s only available in premium AMG Line trim – it gives the rival BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf a sporty look and is a big part of the package for many company car users. The electric range of 44 miles means that those who travel short distances and frequently access a charging point can effectively drive the A 250 e as a pure electric car, relying on the petrol engine for longer journeys or for driving by highway The A-Class Hybrid is available as a hatchback or sedan, but we’d go with the hatchback for its more versatile boot space.
The high-capacity Mercedes E-Class PHEV is available in a variety of guises, with petrol and diesel engines, as well as sedan or estate. In particular, a diesel E 300 d may cost a few hundred pounds more than a BMW 530e BiK, but you’ll save a lot on fuel costs if you use the diesel regularly on longer journeys. No matter which model you choose, the E-Class PHEV will reward you with a comfortable ride, smart looks, great technology and impressive fuel economy.
If space is important, but you don’t want to pay too much for the privilege, the Superb iV makes perfect sense as a company car. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain is the same as many other PHEVs from the Volkswagen Group, with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine and a 13 kWh battery for a pure electric range of 35 miles. The Superb combines the proven powertrain with a massive boot and acres of rear legroom. BiK is also low – entry-level cars sit in a pleasantly low band, which means manageable payments for taxpayers of 20% and 40%. In fact, payments will be less than an equivalent large executive saloon, as the Superb boasts a significantly lower list price.
A worthy alternative to some of its compact flagship rivals from BMW and Mercedes, the Peugeot 508 is a left-field choice that’s stylish inside and out, as well as highly efficient. It has a well-integrated hybrid system with an electric range of up to 39 miles. As far as company cars go, this makes a lot of sense thanks to its low BiK rating, while the fact that the 508 is a comfortable, sophisticated and uniquely designed alternative to the relatively unimaginative mainstream is a little d ‘advantage.

Any of Volvo’s current plug-in hybrids could easily take this spot on the list, but we chose the V60 Recharge because it embodies everything that’s great about the old Swede while improving the formula. so far in terms of style, quality and technology. While still not quite as nimble as the BMW 3 Series Touring, the V60 is still a good ride with surprising performance thanks to its healthy 345bhp. Fuel economy is also impressive, as is the plug-in wagon’s 54-mile range.
