Cars With Best Gas Mileage Non Hybrid – You want a four-seater with the highest EPA combined gas mileage you can get — but you’ve decided you don’t need a hybrid.
For 2014, two new contenders are entering the fray — and they’re set to deliver better fuel efficiency than the current best-of-the-pack.
Cars With Best Gas Mileage Non Hybrid
This year, your winning choice is the 2013 Nissan Versa L subcompact sedan, rated at 35 mpg when equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

(The 2014 Nissan Versa Note hatchback is rated at 35 mpg with the same powertrain.)
For the 2014 model year, two cars are coming to beat the ratings of the Versa models.
First up is the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage, the manufacturer’s first subcompact in the U.S. in more than a decade.
The small, rounded hatchback debuted at the New York Auto Show this spring and is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder gasoline engine that makes a modest 74 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque.

Two transmissions are offered—a five-speed manual or a CVT—and secondly, the 2014 Mirage has an EPA rating of 40 mpg (37 mpg city, 44 mpg highway).
It’s a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that uses Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharging technology to deliver the same power as the regular 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, previously the only option in the US Fiesta.
That engine is more powerful than the non-turbocharged Mitsubishi: the 1.0-liter three makes 123 horsepower (at a high 6,000 rpm) and a very useful 148 lb-ft of torque (at 1,400 rpm).
We drove a 2014 Ford Fiesta EcoBoost prototype last fall, and it was fun and smooth, especially when driving hard on the back roads through the Los Angeles canyons.

However, we didn’t take a gas mileage estimate during our short, hard test drive, and Ford has yet to release final specifications for the 2014 Fiesta.
So can’t wait to see if the EcoBoost Fiesta matches or betters the somewhat weaker Mitsubishi.
Only Ford says the Fiesta 1.0-litre gets the highest rating among non-hybrid cars for petrol mileage, so we think it’s worth a look.

Privacy Policy Fuel efficiency, cargo space, and affordability make for a triple threat combination in the ever-popular crossover SUV segment. This is a group that starts out cheap, but quickly climbs into the higher price range as options begin to settle. But it’s a solution for automakers to pack storage space into an inexpensive boat that can still meet the EPA composite rating. . At least 30 mpg. Despite their lack of space, the cars still beat crossovers in terms of overall fuel economy, but some manufacturers haven’t stopped shorting smaller lineups in the meantime to boost potential SUV sales. Here are the most fuel-efficient crossovers that don’t rely on electric motors to achieve maximum combined fuel economy according to the EPA.
Hybrid Cars: Why They Are So Fast
The new 2020 Ford Escape goes on sale in late 2019 in an effort to entice former Focus, Fusion and Taurus buyers to switch to compact-SUV supremacy. Opt for the 180bhp turbocharged 1.5-litre in front-wheel drive guise and get an EPA 30mpg. Standard driver assistance technology includes automatic high beam, automatic emergency braking and lane assist. The new Escape is longer and wider than the old one, offering better legroom and cargo space in the rear.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 gets more refined styling and a modern cabin for 2019, along with revised engines. We love the exterior, but the interior is a little colder depending on the trim; Adventure trim’s fun moods are welcome. The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is a little noisy but strong, and it returns up to 30 mpg—good enough to make it onto this list.
After landing in 2018, the relatively new Hyundai Kona enters 2019 as a new nameplate with a stylish design and impressive demeanor. Both four-cylinder engines return 30 mpg combined, so you’re better off going for the turbocharged 1.6-liter 175-hp version that comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Regardless of engine choice, the Kona has competent handling and a smooth ride, but choosing all-wheel drive drops the EPA to 27 mpg combined for both engines.
The 2019 Honda HR-V is a Honda. It’s not flashy, but it offers solid fuel economy and a level of practicality nearly unmatched in the subcompact SUV segment. Part of the credit goes to the HR-V’s multifunction rear seat — borrowed from the Fit hatchback — which makes the most of interior cabin space with multiple seat-folding options. There’s also a 1.8-liter engine that delivers up to 30 mpg combined in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations; Performance balance between two- and four-wheel drive vehicle types is rare.

It doesn’t offer the best fuel economy in its class, but the 2019 Honda CR-V is better than the competition. A comfortable and spacious cabin and excellent handling at up to 30 mpg make the CR-V ideal for small families. There’s a reason it made our top 10 list when it debuted in 2017, though its place on that list has been taken by a new contender.
There’s no doubt that the 2019 Mazda CX-3 has more fun per pound than any other crossover on this list. Its 148-hp inline-four engine punches above its weight, and the agile chassis matches it. Add in sharp steering and a great driving position, and it’s hard not to love the CX-3’s athletic personality, which is in line with every other car Mazda sells.
The 2020 Kia Soul is a fast-acting antidote to monotonous, round and oval shapes and poor gas mileage. The Soul gets an EPA 31 mpg when the 147-hp inline-four is in CVT form, while a six-speed manual is available, while the GT-Line trim has a faster 201-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter. 7.0-inch touchscreen is standard; A larger 10.3-inch screen is also available. The Soul can be had with standard driver assistance features, along with optional features like heated front seats and steering wheel and wireless phone charging.
Expected to arrive at dealerships later this year, the new 2020 Hyundai Veedi is Hyundai’s smallest crossover yet. Like the Accent, the Venue is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four, with a choice of six-speed manual or CVT. The CVT is the only way to hit the EPA combined 32 mpg. There is an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. Exterior options like an available power sunroof and 17-inch wheels make this compact crossover a serious competitor to its Ford and Nissan rivals.

The Nissan Kicks delivers what it was designed for and nothing else: performance and cargo space. Even with a 125-hp inline-four mated to a CVT, it doesn’t struggle. Offering an uber-cheap base price, the handsomely styled Kicks still packs plenty of standard safety features while offering roomy cargo space.
The all-new Lexus UX200 leads the way in performance. Powered by a 169-hp 2.0-liter inline-four with a CVT, it achieves an EPA combined 33 mpg. Available with front-wheel drive (if you want all-wheel drive, you’ll need to get the hybrid model), the UX200 gets 18-inch wheels, a 7.0-inch infotainment screen, eight-way adjustable front seats and a leather interior.

While gas prices have been relatively stable of late, if the past year has taught us anything, it’s that the move is definitely on the rise. It won’t be long before crude oil and then gasoline prices rise sharply, especially as (hopefully) American motorists finally step up.
