Most five-seaters on the market today have three primary seat attachment points in the rear seats. So you’d think you could fit three child seats in the back seats, but as I found out in my test, that’s not the case! The main reasons I find are either the cars are not wide enough, or the back seat bases are not wide enough, or the seat bases or seat backs are too steep for three child seats to fit!

The VW Tiguan is a good family SUV with five seats, where I could fit three Infasecure Attain More child seats in the back. All outboard rear seats have ISO adjustment and main attachment points behind the three rear seats and are easily accessible through the boot. The rear seats are very flat and allow three child seats to fit, but the seat base wasn’t wide enough for the child seats I tested so if you’re thinking of installing three child seats you definitely need to check your seats. . The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV is a great five-seat hatchback in the $47,000 – $54,000 range. Three unsecured child seats fit snugly in the rear seats with plenty of legroom in the front too. The Haval H6 Lux is an affordable five-seater SUV priced from $32,990 for the base model to $39,990 for the top model. The three child safety seats fit well behind the rear seats and the legroom is very good. If you are looking for a car that is good for a large family, this is a good choice. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a very stylish and practical five-seater electric car. Prices range from $71,000 to $76,000. The Ioniq 5 is a great electric car loaded with features that families love! It has rear curtains, drawers instead of a glove box, all seats can be moved and controlled via the front media screen which is fun and practical! The MG ZS is the cheapest five-seater SUV available in Australia at the moment. Prices from $41,000. A 184cm driver could benefit from a forward-facing child seat and a 184cm passenger could travel for a rear-facing child seat with good legroom. The new Kia Sportage is the perfect five-seat SUV for families and is priced between $33,000 and $53,000. I put three Infasecure child seats in the back seats and found that I could only fit between the two child seats. There are ISOFix points in the two outboard seats and top mounts in the rear three. Legroom is very good in the cabin, with a child seat in the back, we found that a 180cm driver can fit in the front or a 186cm front passenger. The Car Seat Lady: Triplets!!!!
The new Toyota RAV4 has a good interior space that made it easy to install child seats. I could fit three child seats in the back seats. It was a bit tight but I could fit three child seats in the front or two forward facing and one forward facing. The legroom inside was enough for a 180cm driver to sit in front of the rear child seat which is great! Check out the full review here.
The price of the Nissan Qashqai ranges from $27,000 to $36,000. I noticed that the rear row of the Nissan Qashqai can accommodate (only) three child seats. Two full size seats with an extra seat on the main seat. Three full size chairs wouldn’t fit though. The legroom in the Nissan Qashqai is not too bad, with the rear seat installed, a 170 cm driver can sit in front, or with a child seat in the front, a 182 cm driver can sit in front. There is plenty of interior space throughout the car and the legroom is very practical for families. The Kia Niro EV is a great electric SUV for families and is priced between $40,000 and $66,000. There are ISOFix points in the two outboard seats and top mounts in the rear three. Legroom is also excellent in the Kia e-Niro and we found that we could fit a 186cm driver in front of the rear seat with a child or a 186cm adult passenger behind the same tall driver. Mitsubishi Outlander Exceed Seven Seater Review
The five-seat Honda CR-V costs between $31,000 and $45,000. I could fit three child seats in the second row of the five-seater model with plenty of legroom and luggage room throughout. The Peugeot 3008 accommodates two child seats and an extra seat comfortably in the rear seats, and the front passenger seat folds down so children can easily climb in and out of rear-facing child seats too.
